Security camera and remote viewer question?

Mr. Guinness asked:

I have a security camera connect to a router with an IP address of (192.168.1.122) assigned by the router (192.168.1.1). It’s also assigned Port: 8000 with TCP/UDP checked. I can connect to the cameras through a computer on the network, but when I go home and try to connect through the internet, it’s a no go. Can’t figure out why? Any settings I might be missing?
I have software for my computer at home to view it.
Thanks

What is the best solution for me for home security?

Justin asked:

Someone yanked and stole one of my outside ventilation for my home. When I woke up this morning, my central heating was throwing off cold air. So, I went outside to check on my air/heating unit. As soon as I stepped outside, I saw a hole in my home. That’s where the ventilation (a rectangular piece) used to be.

I have been living at this address for 10 years, and I never encountered any theft or any problems in my neighborhood. Usually, this has been a nice peaceful neighborhood which is why I decided to move in the first place. I just don’t understand what or how this could have happened? I never had any enemies nor do I have any now. Who could have done this and why?

I’m a poor guy making less than $20K, so I can’t afford to get ADT security set up for my home. What do you recommend? Motion sensor lights, motion sensor alarms, motion sensor cameras, or a combination of these? It would prefer an additional small hand-held device which alerts me with a beep if any of the lights or cameras are triggered. I need something reasonably priced setup for my home. Sorry, I can’t afford a dog, either. Please, help. Thanks.
I did fix the hole temporarily. I had stuffed it with large bubble-wrap sheet. It seems to work, and I’m planning to get a new ventilation, and your idea about securing all the ventilations with wires sounds like good a idea.

I’ve got dead-bolt locks on all my doors. I will definitely get those fake security tags. I think I might go with a combination of sensor lights and alarm. Thanks. I appreciate your advice.

How to monitor my security cameras on a LCD tv?

Joe L asked:

I can remotly view my security system for my business from home which obviously requires a computer. I am trying to set it up so I can just have a LCD tv setup to continuasly view the cameras. I guess I will have to get a small computer and add it to my network with only the security program running but isnt there a cheaper and easier way to do this.

How do I secure my new home?

BRUUUUSKI asked:

Recently moved in to a newly built home in a rural area, right next to a busy road.

Recently I’ve noticed weirdos stopping in front of my home and taking photographs of my property. When I go outside to let them know I can see them, they take off.

At nights, there are strange cars parked on the road with their headlights on near my home.

I have expensive new cars parked on my property so I am thinking they are planning to carjack them or rob my home.

So far I’ve:

Installed a fence around the property.
Got a large dog that bark at strangers and will bite if they happen to jump the fence

Which is the best wireless security camera that works in the total darkness (there are no street lights here) and that can be broadcast on the Internet?

I have a chain linked fence only, so what can I do so they can’t see throught it?

Any other ideas?

Very Strange happenings. need security camera asap?

kyliebear? asked:

Ok so something really wierd happened when my mom and I went to our cabin in the afternoon in the middle of the week last week.. We tried to open the door but the handle wouldn’t move, so then we unlocked it and the handle would move but it was locked again, and when we unlocked it, the handle wouldn’t move again, like someone was on the other side locking and holding the handle.. So we went to all the neighbors but no one was home, so we went back and unlocked it and the door opened right away.. when we got in we discovered that the alarm system had been disarmed, when we were posative that we armed it the last time we had left. We got out of there right away, very freaked out, and a week before we found out that a Kosco account had been setup to send mail to our cabin adress that we never set up.. We’re worried someones up to something and we want to get a security camera installed that we can monitor live from our computers at home.. where could we get one thats not too expensive??
What brand and where to get it.

miniature wireless security camera?

Marsha asked:

Where could someone purchase a miniature wireless security camera that works decently? At least good enough to tell who’s doing what. I have some strange, unexplainable things happening inside and outside my home and am trying to determine what is going on. I have located things for outside the home, but haven’t came up with a affordable miniature wireless security camera or even a hidden camera of some sort for inside the home. Any Ideas?

What is that show with 2 ex-burglars, they robbed a home, then improved its security?

scotch tape asked:

I think it was on a&e, discovery channel, tlc (the learning channel), or some-one of those.

The film crew would put cameras all over the house and the owners would go about their business. One of the ex-burglars would rob the house. The next day the other ex-burglar would show the owners what were the weak points of the house and then they improved the house for free.

I think it was on Discovery Channel or TLC or other. Can anyone tell me what that show was? Thank you.
